Troop 120 Fact Sheet |
Boy Scout Troop 120 is sponsored by Fellowship Bible Church and is a Christian troop adhering to Christian values. The troop was founded on June 1, 1992 with Roger Beeman as the first Scoutmaster. Tim Gatlin is the current Scoutmaster. There are approximately 40 Scouts in the troop and 20 Scouts from Troop 120 have achieved the rank of Eagle. The troop is "Scout led," this means the Scouts lead the troop meetings, campouts, outings, and events. The boys learn leadership by selecting the troop activities, organizing and planning the events, and then leading the events. The Scoutmasters, Troop Committee members, and adult leaders provide supervision and guidance. Parent participation (including moms and dads) is highly encouraged. The troop is very active, we have regular camping and outdoor activiities and with outings at least once per month. Weekend campouts, caving expeditions, hikes, ball games, rock climbing, and day trips to amusement parks are popular with the Scouts. |

The older Scouts regularly go on "High Adventure Trips" including canoeing trips and backpacking trips. Some of the high adventure trips include Florida Sea Base, canoeing at the Sommers Wilderness Canoe Base in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota, and backpacking and horse calvacades at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. Part of rank advancement is serving the community by performing service projects and the Scouts regularly participate in numerous activities. Troop meetings include rank advancement activities like first aid, knot-tying, camping skills, and physical fitness. The older Scouts regularly participate in merit badge classes that are required for the advanced ranks of Star, Life, and Eagle. |
