First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)

The First Christian Church of Mt. Carmel began in the Civil War year of 1962 with a band of 33 charter members. This small group of committed Christians, in only two years, had its first building to worship in and was beginning to make its influence felt in the community.

Its numbers grew and its sense of mission and service developed. One building outgrew another until the present sanctuary was built in 1922 and its educational unit in 1961.

From the beginning the people of this congregation have shown a spirit of cooperation and have emphasized the practical nature of the Christian life. The church has developed and maintained many forms of service to this community with equal concern for maintaining a Christian witness in the world beyond this community.

Worship is the means by which we keep in touch with our Creator. That relationship plus the fellowship of other believers in praise of God is an essential part of our faith. First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) invites you to our worship services which are held at 9:30 a.m. on Sundays.

Disciples believe in a rational approach to faith and have church school classes for all ages. A nursery is also available for both worship and the study hour following. First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) invites you to become a part of a class group at the Church School hour of 10:30 a.m. for both study and fellowship.
