FAIRFAX COMMUNITY CHURCH MOPS GROUP HISTORY

The MOMS Group at Fairfax Community Church was started on September 18, 2001 by Barbara Orrell-Jones and Kathleen Otchy.  "Venturing out from the safety of our own homes to attend the very first meeting of a brand-new mother's group was a lot to ask of women in the Fairfax area," said Orrell-Jones.  "Living so close to the Pentagon made us feel extremely vulnerable at that time.  However, 11 brave women turned up.  All we did was cry--because we all felt the same fear:  How do we raise our children in times like these??  Goodbye, June Cleaver--Hello, mothers of the new millennium!"  These same women returned again and again, and as they brought their friends, the numbers grew. In March 2003, we were chartered by MOPS International (Mothers of Preschoolers).  Our success and growth stem from the dedication of our Steering Team leaders as well as in the support we receive from Fairfax Community Church.
