FDIP TMC enters the third level in speech competition

Competent Toastmasters (CTM) Marissa Monsanto competed at the recent Philippine Toastmasters District 75 Convention (DISCON) 2003 held at Davao City representing Division H in Evaluation Speech category.

Marissa's participation to the contest paved the way for FDIP Toastmasters Club (TMC) to achieve the third level in Toastmasters speech competition. The three-day District Convention started on May 1, 2003 was designed to convene the participants and compete amongst the best of the best. The annual convention culminated with ten Division Champions from all over the country representing 123 clubs competed for each other in four different categories such as Impromptu, Evaluation, Humorous and International Prepared speech.

CTM Marissa proudly showing her Certificate of Participation"Joining the Evaluation Speech Contest in the District Level is a big challenge for me. We are relatively one of the youngest Club, being trained only for more than two years. I am honored to be chosen as the official representative of Division H and indeed, talking in front of a big congregation in the convention is a learning process for me; I have learned to conquer my fears and face my demons - and for this I thank Fluor for supporting me in this endeavor," said Marissa who is also the Club's Vice-President for Membership. She was accompanied by Humorous Area 73 Champion Rico Abibas and Impromptu Area 73 Champion Eddie Boy Lontok,Jr. Area Governor Pam Castro who represented Division H, was also there to provide moral support for participants belonging to her group and at the sametime act as contest judge. The theme for this year convention was "The Difference is You"!

"The opportunity came to us as a big blessing, we never expected that our club through our able representative VP-Membership, CTM Marissa Monsanto would blaze the trail and carve our CLUB's name as the official representative of our division, that is Division H. The club being 3 years young achieved a very big accomplishment and milestone... who would ever dream that we would get this far... it has been our core inspiration to have fun, do your best, and leave the rest to HIM. In every contest we join our smiles are always from ear to ear because we enjoy what we are doing... FDIP TM club would not be where it is as we speak without the unconditional support of the FDIP Management. We share our victory and success to all members of the club and most especially our FDIP family," said President Eddie Boy Lontok,Jr.

Meanwhile, Orly Tugob bagged the championship trophy for the 2003 International Prepared Contest with "Dreaming Together" titled speech. Orly who was also last year champion in the same category will represent the Philippines District 75 and will defend his winning speech in Atlanta, USA on August 2003. He belongs to Division H under Harbor TMC Area 71. Next year Toastmasters District Convention (DISCON 2004) will be held in Cebu City.
