	February 2004 I just returned from the vet. Over the weekend some sort of fate brought me together with a black and white stray female that was living in the country inside a large electrical transformer. Two nights ago, out of the blue, I volunteered to get pizza. (we have never gone to this pizza place for takeout). As I rounded a corner my lights caught her sitting on the edge of the snow by the transformer. On my return I left a small piece of crust and then went home for some real cat food (I sometimes feed my neighbor's cat so I had some fresh stuff). It was dark and cold and she was obviously afraid of me so I left the food and went home. The next day, with a helper, I returned to the cat. She was shivering, and meowed like a kitten. After finally gaining her trust we managed to coax her out and took her home. Right now we have decided to call her Muffin. I suggested "Skunk" but I was vetoed. Things happen in a strange way sometimes. The day prior to finding this new cat I found one of Snoop's toys under a wine rack. The toy had been there from a time when Snoop was healthy. Muffin is very sweet and lovey but needed a little fixing up (worms, diet, etc). She's about 10 mths old, not spayed (yet), and weighs about 7.3 lbs. She is negative for FeLV and now has her shots and her pill for worms. Spaying comes in about a month. Update. This cat's in heat and driving me crazy. Spaying has been changed to the soonest possible date. June 2004: Muffin is doing great. She is such a pleasure to have around. She is content and enjoys a romp in the backyard several times a week, on a 25ft leash. She is happy with it and pays no attention to the restraint. Fall 2004: Muffin loves her walks and chasing leaves. The challenge is for me to keep up with her when she starts running. May 8, 2005: Muffin is a jewel and her name seems to fit. The catnip is starting to grow and she enjoys a visit to the plant when we take our walk around the yard. Unfortunately, and unlike Snoop, she is prone to tooth and gum problems. She recently lost one of her tiny front teeth but is doing much better with help from the vet. Her diet is now Hills t/d for teeth, CET chews, and a special gel I apply once a day to her upper gums to change her mouth chemistry. During her recent checkup she also received a 1-yr rabies vaccination. Because she visits the yard regularly, on her leash, I am using Revolution once a month to halt any pests that may find her. November 2006: Muffin has had diarrhea for 2 months and for no apparent reason. She feels great, plays as usual, but can't get by this problem. Tried special prescription foods and other things to help digestion but no luck. Vet just sent me something else to try. Ran a bunch of tests but nothing unusual. June 2007: Muffin is doing fine. After experimenting with different foods we finally found that venison minimal-ingredient food did the job. But a high calcium level was discovered after using a dry brand of a food manufactured in Ontario. Research shows this food may have too much vitamin D. After switching to canned venison food she is doing great. But trying to find a food that was not affected by the melamine poisoning was not easy. November 2007: Muffin is still doing great and has been eating California Natural Venison and Brown Rice for over six months.
