Title: A Moment

Author: Andrew E. ( axis@ansonic.com.au )

Series: Voyager / Highlander: The Raven

Code: Seven of Nine / Amanda

Rating: PG

Disclaimer: Paramount owns STAR TREK ... yada, yada, yada! All Highlander characters and Concepts belong to Davis and Panzer Productions and Rysher. But it seams like since neither of them are doing much in the way of these characters anymore... and considering the absurd amount of money I've spent on merchandising and the amount of time I've spent watching/reading/dreaming about them that could be spent doing something more constructive they really shouldn't get there pants in a twist over this tiny little story...

Summary: A small POV piece starting off a large story in progress as of 1/11/01

A MOMENT

by Andrew E.

In life few things are set to go the way you want. After almost 2000 years that is the one lesson I keep relearning. Every time something like this happens I think to myself why didn't I see this coming? Why didn't I feel this coming? That's a downfall of being an immortal (one of many) you get used to feeling the big things coming at you. Usually with a sword. This wasn't a sword I had to worry about. It was a six-foot tall tower of ice-cold blond beauty.

I hadn't changed but she had. Only slightly, a few years added, five at most. Her eyes wiser and slightly softer. Five years for her, four centuries for me. I had always known she wasn't from my world, or of the time I met her in. But it never occurred to me that we would meet again, at first I had hoped but never really believed. I learned when I was still mortal that people like me never get what they want handed to them by fate. They have to take it.

I could hear the current of conversation change as she walked into the hall. Whispers of "there she is" or "I heard..." that standard fare of uninteresting gossip that had been filling halls like this since long before I was born.

They fear what she use to be. Just like they would fear what I am if they knew. Back when we first met I didn't understand why she was so wise about some things but so naive about the world, or how chilling three words could be "I was Borg"

Her eyes find mine over a sea of faces and slowly, like Moses parting the red sea, she makes her way to me. I am frozen in my place by a strange mixture of fear, anticipation, desire, and wonder.

She finally reaches me after what seems like an eternity, and I know a lot about eternities. Her face lights up in a way I can only describe as breath taking as she says two words, I can't help but wonder if this a beginning or an ending.

"Hello Amanda"

The beginning...
