Wayne stayed with me from Sunday 18th - Saturday 24th November 2001 (poor guy!!) Read on for a summary of how we spent the week...

Sunday - Picked Wayne up from Audley End train station without turning and running the other way. Sat and chatted in my flat.

Monday - Was going to go to Duxford but couldn't find a way in! So went to Cambridge instead. Walked round most of the colleges. Discovered the majority of places are closed in Cambridge on a Monday *sigh*. Headed for Linton Zoo, but Wayne wanted me to turn off the M11 onto a junction which I couldn't turn off. (Typical male!) So instead we drove through kewl places like Finchingfield and had a walk around Thaxted. Actually found the windmill at Thaxted which was a first for me!!

Tuesday - Went to Duxford and had a blast! First time on concorde was a pleasant experience!!!!! Went to Linton Zoo which was small but good. Checked out Chilford Vineyard for good measure. Can recommend the wine tasting!!! Went for a drive through Britain's horseracing town, ie Newmarket, but didn't get out of the car as there was nothing to see really in November! So we went and gave blood back in Saffron Walden (-note, this was a new experience for Wayne!!), and had a meal at Ask Italien restaurant which was good :)

Wednesday - I think you call this 'Castle Day'. Went to Framlingham Castle followed by Orford. Then we decided to go to Ipswich as Wayne read somewhere it has a castle. Never trust a foreigner on such matters! Can't believe I fell for that one!! Returned to my parents for the second housing of Wayne's stay with me. Went round my friend Chip's and watched "Romeo Must Die". Was a bit dubious about them saying it's nothing like the modern Romeo and Juliet (which, I have to say quite politely, I hated!). And I'd have to agree!! What a kewl film! :)

Thursday - Couldn't let Wayne not visit THE finest cathedral in England now, could I?! You've got it. We went to Ely. Not only did we go to the cathedral, but we also visited my late ancestor Oliver Cromwell's House too. Then we visited my then heavily pregnant friend Tanya while we were in town.

Friday - First port of call was Grimes Graves. I'd never been there before, although my sister went on a school trip there whilst at primary school and seemed to enjoy it! Still can't believe it's in the middle of Thetford Forest!! After the shock of all the bunnies and the ancient art of flint mining, decided to visit Thetford Priory nearby. What a great ruin! Tried to find another ruin, but the signposts were FAR from helpful! :o/ So instead we went to Bury (St. Edmunds, for you foreigners from up north!). We walked through the Abbey Gardens, found and sat on the world's first internet bench (as Wayne thought I was making it up!), had a drink in "The Nutshell", Britain's smallest pub, visited my newly aquired friend of a shop whose name I forget but which sells all kinds of autographed memorabilia, and then decided it was time to move on. Wayne quite liked the sound of West Stow Anglo-Saxon village and coutry park, so we decided to go there on the off-chance it was open. It was!! Changed a bit since my last visit ten years ago! Also prompted Wayne to ask the question, what will people make of it in the future when the project is long gone?? Hmm. Went to Fressingfield after dinner and met up with my buddies Luke and Co who took us to a pub somewhere nearby. Hadn't seen them for a whole two months, so was great fun! :)

Saturday - Time for Wayne to go back to the land of walking on heads. He caught a bus from Mildenhall to London, with promises of a place to stay should we wish to take the same trip someday...
