I'm (actually me and my husband) owned by two wonderful little furry slinkies named Dweezil and Opie. Ferrets are great little pets, but they're definitely not for everybody. I compare them to raising two-year-olds with ADHD that never grow up! However, you sometimes find a "lap" ferret, that enjoys being held a lot. Most ferrets will allow you to hold them for a little bit but then they want to get back to exploring and playing. When Dweezil and Opie are out to play I spend most of my time trying to get them over to play with me or keeping them out of trouble. I suppose they've got me trained, because they'll give me attention when they want to give it! When they're sick of playing with each other or nothing else seems very interesting, they'll come over and entice us to play. Dweezil does this by wardancing and Opie does it by rolling all over the floor. **At the present time Dweezil and Opie are living with my in-laws because our landlords refuse to let us keep them here (looooong story). Here's a little insight into the personalities of Dweezil and Opie: Dweezil (aka Dweezil Louise, Dweezy, Girlie Girl, Missy, and ARGH, GET DOWN FROM THERE!!): This
little sprite (spayed female) is incredibly
intelligent! She's outsmarted me more times than I like to admit.
She has an innocent face but she's really the mastermind behind
all of the mischief. She belongs to FLA (or Froot Loops
Anonymous) and can sometimes be lured away from mischief by
sugary cereals. She's quite a skinny little sable, weighing in at
1 1/4 lbs at 3 years old.. She's so small that she can squeeze
underneath our bathroom door, which has led us to just
ferret-proof the bathroom and let her have her run of the
bathroom. She loves to dig, whether it be in carpet, litter or
the hammock. She is a sweetheart, but can bite if you roughhouse
with her (fortunately she lets go if you say "Ow"). She
loves to snorkle in the water dish, then run through my clothes
to get them wet. She also likes to climb on top of our towels and
play King (well queen in hercase) of the Mountain. **Dweezil currently has Adrenal Disease, but is doing fine. She's a little skinnier and has a lot less hair, but she's incredibly active!** . Opie (aka Dopey, Dopey Opie, Opie Wan Kenobi, Opster, Fat Boy, Skunky, and SkunkyMonkey): Compared to Dweezil he's the dumb one (if he were human we'd be getting money from the state for him--JOKING), but he's a Mama's boy (*ahem* when he wants to be) so it all equals out. He's a gib (or a neutered male) and loves to roll all over the bedroom. Rolling is made pretty easy for him since he's so round at 2 3/4 lbs at 3 years old. He likes to sniff and play in my hair when I'm laying on the floor playing with them. He likes to eat his ferret food but isn't as fond of the cereal treats as much as Dweezil is. He's a bit of a scaredy ferret. He loves order and routine. He has a special mouse toy that he likes to hide in bags that we leave around for them to play with. He also likes the water dish to be down in the bathroom when he's out to play, if it's not down he'll come get me to complain about it not being down. He's a real goofball, and is definitely a sweetheart. He's a standard chocolate that can't stand to be without Dweezil. Both he and Dweezil love to travel. **UPDATE: Opie is now 5 years old (as of Fall 2001) and also has Adrenal disease.** Wanna see more pictures?! If so click here!
