Subject: The Names of God - YHVH Rophe
Shalom, Boker-tov ( good morning ),
Four hundred and thirty years after Jacob and his family left Canaan where
there was a great famine and lived in Egypt, Moses led the children of
Israel out of the land of Goshen to bring them back to the Promised Land.
After they had successfully crossed over the Red Sea walking on the dry
sea-bed and after their joyful celebration, the children of Israel journeyed
for three days in the wilderness but they found no water.
In Exodus 15: 22 - 27, we read that the people finally came upon an oasis
where there was a pool of water but the water was very bitter. After three
long days of wandering in the desert wilderness, the water did look inviting
and they rushed forward, knelt down and started to lap up the water but
they found the water bitter and not fit for human consumption and they
called the place 'Marah'. They grumbled at Moses saying, "what shall
we drink?"
Then Moses turned to the Lord and He showed him a tree. Moses took the
tree and threw it into the waters and immediately the water turned sweet
and everyone was able to drink and became nourished. The LORD healed the
waters and reminded the people that He was YHVH ROPHE, the LORD who heals.
When Jesus was ministering on Earth, in all the four Books of Matthew,
Mark, Luke and John, we read of all the cases of the sick and those who
were under bondage coming to Him and receiving healing from Him. The blind
received their sight, the lame walked, the lepers received their healing
and the demon-possessed were delivered. People who were inflicted with
incurable diseases received His healing and were made whole. Those who
were broken in spirit were uplifted. On three occasions, He raised the
dead and restored them to their loved ones - the widow in the village
of Nain received her only son back from the dead. Jairus' daughter was
raised back to life and Lazarus whom Jesus loved dearly was raised back
to life after having been dead for four days. Luke wrote in Luke 4: 40
"while the sun was setting, all those who had any who were sick with
various diseases brought them to Him; and laying His hands on each one
of them, He healed them all."
Jesus was not only able to heal, but He was more than willing to do so.
In Luke 5: 12-16, we read of a leper who saw Jesus and implored Him, "Lord,
if you are willing, You can make me clean." And Jesus stretched forth
His hand and touched Him, saying, "I am willing; be cleansed."
And we were told the leprosy left the man. Under the law, nobody is allowed
to go near a leper, leave alone touch one but Jesus had compassion on
the leper. He touched him and healed him.
On the night He was betrayed, when the soldiers came to arrest Him in
the Garden of Gethsemane, the Apostle Peter took a sword and swinging
it to chop off the head of Malchus, the servant of the High Priest, Malchus
ducked and lost his right ear instead. And Jesus, about to be arrested
and tried and condemned to death, touched Malchus' ear and healed him
( Luke 22: 51 ). Healing was not only for those who loved Him and followed
Him but for His enemies as well.
Not only did Jesus heal those who came and knelt at His feet and worshipped
Him but He also healed those who had others come to Him in proxy on their
behalf and asked Him. The Roman Centurion came to Jesus on behalf of his
dying servant. He asked Him to utter the word and heal his servant from
a distance and indeed, Jesus proclaimed to the Centurion that his servant
was healed and the confirmation came from the house that the servant was
healed when the word was spoken.
When Jesus was crucified on the cross, He wore a crown of thorns on His
forehead and trust me, I have seen the thorn tree when I visited the Dead
Sea area in mid February 2002. The thorns are long and sharp and when
they are woven into a crown and pressed into the forehead, they are nasty.
The Roman soldiers placed the crown on His head and they mocked Him, hitting
Him on the head and driving the thorns into His skull. Jesus bled and
bore our curses for the thorns represented the curses of God. In Genesis
3:17-19, God cursed the ground and said that there will be thorns and
thistles.
On Jesus' body the Roman soldiers inflicted their scourging of 39 lashes
and the prophet proclaimed in Isaiah 53: 5, 'He was pierced through for
our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the chastening
for our well-being fell upon Him and by His scourging we are healed'.
Indeed, Jesus pardoned all our iniquities ( sins ) and healed all our
diseases ( Psalms 103: 3 ).
In Exodus 15: 22 - 27, the LORD showed Moses a tree ( the cross ) and
told him to throw the tree into the waters. When we put Jesus into our
situations, no matter how hopeless they may seem, there is healing and
there will be restoration for our bodies. On the cross, Jesus bore our
sins and more than restored the relationship that existed between the
Lord and Adam and Eve before they sinned against Him. By faith in Him,
we have now attained a higher position than what Adam and Eve enjoyed
- they had a relationship of close fellowship between Creator and creation
but we have now entered into a new relationship of a Heavenly Father with
His redeemed children.
Remember, our Lord Jesus is not only able to heal us of all our sicknesses
and diseases but more than that, He is more than willing to do so when
we call upon Him. From all the accounts of His acts of healing found in
the four books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, there is one connecting
thread - all who received their healing did so by faith. Jesus declared,
"your faith has made you well."
Have you put your faith in Jesus that He died for your sins and bore all
your diseases on His body when He hung on the cross and died in our place?
I would encourage you to do as the benefits are yours to enjoy the moment
you put your faith in Jesus.
Our Father in Heaven, thank you for your great love for us in providing
Your Only Beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ to die on the cross for our
sins. Thank you that by His death, all our sins have been forgiven and
on His body He bore all our diseases. Thank you that because Jesus died
and rose again on the third day, I do not have to be separated from Your
love for me but that I am now Your child.
Lord Jesus, I receive You into my life as my Lord and Savior. Thank you
that because of Your death, I am now a child of the Heavenly Father and
that as a child of God, I can now enjoy all the blessings that are found
in Deuteronomy Chapter 28.
Thank you that I am greatly blessed, highly favored, deeply loved, forever
forgiven and now completely protected because of our Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ and in His Name I pray. Amen.
When we make Jesus our Lord and Savior, He will come and live in our hearts
and He will restore us in all aspects of our lives, beginning with our
health. The Lord wants us to enjoy all His blessings to their fullest
starting with good health. Get ready for the supernatural healing to take
place in your bodies. When the Holy Spirit comes and make His home in
our lives, He also does 'spring-cleaning' - restoring our bodies to their
original state of having no sicknesses. He is able and He is willing.
The Lord blesses you and keeps you,
The Lord makes His face shine upon you and be gracious to you and all
your loved ones,
The Lord lifts up His countenance upon you and gives you His shalom peace.
Numbers 6: 24 - 26
Have a blessed week ahead, Shavrou-tov
Shalom,
Andrew L W Lee
