The Name When I was first diagnosed with FM, the specialist I was seeing referred to it as Fibrositis or Fibromyalgia. Since that time I have been given articles which refer to it as fibermyalgia, fibromyositis, fibramyalgia, or myofibrocytis and FMS. I find that fibromyalgia has been the term used most often( although I am starting to see FM used frequently) and I will try to stick to those two; however,I am one of those people who tends to use the most recent spelling or pronunciation I've been exposed to so you see me use various spellings, I apologize if this is a problem for anyone. I think there are certain things which are always true and helpful but FM is like any other disease in that you have to listen to your body and discover what works best for you. Granted our body has numerous voices - there's the one that says, "I NEED chocolate", which we try to quiet with an apple and there's the one that says, "Don't try to move that sofa", which we should at least agree with enough so that we get help moving the sofa." Suggested Reading I have read "Fibromyalgia & Chronic Myofascial Pain Syndrome By Devin Starlanyl", M.D. and Mary Ellen Copeland, M.S., M.A. There is some interesting information in this book although I am a little sceptical of some of the remedies. Keep in mind though that could be a fault of my personality and not the author. Devin Starlanyl's weblink FM CHAT I think sometimes the only thing that helps is to talk to other people who are facing similar problems to ourselves. Fibrohugs has an excellent chat site and there are usually people on line twenty four hours a day, seven days a week Fibrohugs Chat If you have questions about the site or wish to share information feel free to e-mail me mitsou23@yahoo.ca I do not endorse any products so can not list them on the site. I only mention the things that have worked for me. Pain has an element of blank; It cannot recollect When it began, or if there were A day when it was not. It has no future but itself, Its infinite realms contain Its past, enlightened to perceive New periods of pain. ........... by Emily Dickinson |
