A new month but some things stay the same with stories from the Northern Territory News

'Monster snails jump Timor ship'

'We will fight them on the beaches.....' .  Two potentially deadly giant African snails were found in a shipyard in Darwin, again from a ship returning from Dili.  The snails apparently have an 'inexhaustible appetite' and grow to 8 inches in diameter.  The snail also harbours a rat lungworm parasite which can cause a fatal form of meningitis in humans.  The two snails haven't been named yet, but a quarantine officer was quoted 'You become attached to them, but if you could somehow harness them they would make a great lawnmower'.

'Footy streaker cops $380 fine'

So our streaker from Friday cops a small fine with a $20 victim levy.  Who the hell is the victim - surely it can only be the culprit.  At least talk of a court martial seems to have subsided so he can go back to learning how to burn women, villages and children.

'NT woman shot by pirates'

Seems like danger follows Territorians.  This time a woman from Darwin was shot by pirates in the Middle East aboard her yacht Gone Troppo.

'Sprays, traps, fight dengue mozzies'

A mozzie story without any quotes from Peter Whelan.  Thirty traps have now been set up for the dengue fever mozzies around Darwin.

'Drug to stop clogged arteries'

After the weekend's swathe of science stories here is one of great hope.  A compound NV-04 has been found and can apparently rectify hardened arteries.  But so far the drug has not been tested on rats let alone humans.  So what exactly have the scientists tested it on?
