'Man struck by poison snake'
The second attack in as many days. Another Humpty Doo man was rushed to hospital after having been bitten by an unknown poisonous snake. The man was in a satisfactory condition with serious swelling around the bite on his leg. Meanwhile, yesterday's victim was not even admitted to hospital, having been bitten by a non-venomous slaty grey snake.
'Fire bug destroys 25 000 hay bales'
Another fire in the Darwin rural area believed to have been deliberately lit. A Darwin River resident lost hectares of speargrass, enough to make up 25 000 bales of mulching hay. The loss represented 30 per cent of his crop.
'CLP seeks new blood for election'
With the council elections out of the way, comes increasing speculation about the next Territory election. The CLP has placed ads in the paper seeking pro-development, pro small government candidates and believers that business should go and do its best. The aim is to seek new blood for the party. Is that because the present members are so abysmal?
'Councils declare war on dingoes'
'New measures to save Top End properties from wild dog and dingo attacks are expected to be introduced by community councils'. Coomalie and Kunbarilanjanja are proposing to introduce animal by-laws to seize, impound and destroy dogs for the first time. Hooray, except for the dingoes, which should be afforded at least some discretion.
