Crocs alive
'1.3 metre croc captured in Rapid Creek''

Fancy a swim in your local creek. Rapid Creek which is one of Darwin's most popular recreational creeks was home to a saltwater crocodile for a day. But alas it was caught and has now been sent to a farm no doubt for later use as a handbag. But another croc at Sadgroves Creek in Darwin's southern suburbs has remained elusive with rangers unable to say how large it is - probably because they haven't seen it - duh?

'Family finds saltie in yard'

'A rural family got the fright of their lives when they found a saltwater crocodile lurking in their back yard'. The backyard was at Virginia in Darwin's rural area. The croc was estimated at between 70cm and 1m long.

'… and lake hunt still on'

The Lake Alexander croc reported yesterday remains at large with experts suspecting it may have been left there deliberately. But what of the danger - Parks and Wildlife rangers will catch it with their bare hands when they find it.

'Magpie done for DUI'

Magpies are not generally a sight seen in Darwin. Drink-driving magpies even less so. Unfortunately it is a more common sight to see drunk footballers driving in the Northern Territory. The Palmerston Magpies' captain was fined $500 and disqualified from driving 12 months after being found guilty with a blood-alcohol content of .177.

'More Dry rain tipped'

Hmm - dry rain - only in the Territory. Referring to the Dry season of course - Darwin had the odd unexpected shower yesterday with more possible today.

''Hi Jack' air alert'

'A passenger who greeted a co-pilot friend with the words "Hi Jack", prompted a full-scale alert at Oakland International Airport. The words were the last picked up by a microphone just as the pilot was finishing a radio conversation with the control tower'. An anti-terrorist team was rushed to the airport - all in vain after the pilot stepped off the plane and explained there was no hijack. Bet the authorities were jacked-off after that.
