'The Stuart Hwy: a road to nowhere'

The truth about Adelaide is revealed. The Stuart Highway continues to be cut by floodwaters with an estimated 4m of water flowing over the Finke River bridge near the SA border. Panic buying has set in with Coles now out of fruit, vegetables, milk and bread.

'NT law 'will be overturned''

Dr Bob Brown has vowed that the mandatory sentencing law will be overturned. The debate has taken an interesting twist of late. Firstly, there is the wide chasm between good policy and populist policy. When it all comes down to basics, politicians seem to care more about being re-elected than coming up with decent policies. Secondly, there is the state rights issue. As Federal politicians try to overwrite the NT policy, the NT Government is pushing the line that Territorians have the right to determine their own laws. So paradoxically the Feds may win the battle but lose the war with the NT Government putting up another referendum for statehood.

'TV fight for swim stars'

In a race that has all the attraction of second prize in a beauty contest in Monopoly, Channel 7 is set to sign the highest profile swimmer who misses out on a place in the Olympic team.

''Near'ly love for probe'

It is St Valentine's day after all. NASA's Near spacecraft will rendevous with the asteroid 433 Eros this afternoon at about 257 million kilometres from earth.

'Wanderers make a duck in wet'

Southern Districts 5.5 11.7 14.11 14.20 (109)
Wanderers 0.0 0.0 0.0 0.0 (0)

For only the second time in NTFL history, a side has failed to exercise the scorers. Wanderers skipper was described as being distraught after the game and quoted as saying the mood 'wasn’t real good' in the dressing room. The game has been dubbed the St Valentine's Eve Massacre and the blackest day in the clubs 83 year old history. I've heard a rumour that the club's song is now Yazz's 'The only way is up'.
