Alice Springs versus Darwin
‘Flood chaos: more tipped’

Not content with being outdone by Alice, it was Darwin’s turn yesterday to suffer flooding as heavy rains wreaked chaos. Roads were flooded, planes were forced to circle the airport and even a RAAF plane was delayed. Wow. Approximately 4 inches of rain fell, a whopping six times the daily average for Darwin in February. Amazing what you can do with statistics. Rain is expected to continue for four to five days.

‘Mozzie plague to hit Alice Springs’

Yes folks, it is Peter Whelan again. Never one to miss an opportunity he has now warned Alice Springs residents that they could face a mozzie plague later this week following the recent rains. Obviously not enough happening in Darwin.

'Cordial, biscuit thief jailed for a year'

Another victory for mandatory sentencing. A 21 year old man from Groote Eylandt stole biscuits and cordial worth $23 from a work site. As it was his third offence he was jailed for 12 months. Yet if he had stolen from a shop, mandatory sentencing would not have applied.

'Labor bid to help tenants'

Yet another example where the Territory is the only jurisdiction without legislation. This time it is laws governing retail tenancies. The NT Opposition is to introduce such a bill into parliament next week.

How not to market - Lesson 1
'Copper up nostrils cures cold: claim'

A German businessman claims he has found the cure for the common cold - copper wire or rings pushed up each nostril. Shame he told everyone his secret.

Territorians set a cracking pace
'NTU solar car 'fastest in the world''

The Northern Territory University's solar car Desert Rose has smashed the record for the fastest solar car over 100km. The average speed of 107.78 km/h compares to the old mark of 100.9 km/h. Obviously the practice on unlimited speed roads has paid off.
