ABC Internet and Sunday Territorian headlines

'Dundee buffalo to be stuffed and mounted in Territory pub' (ABC)

Charlie the buffalo that starred in Crocodile Dundee is to be stuffed and mounted in the Adelaide River pub. The buffalo died of pneumonia last month at the age of 26 years. The owner of the pub is spending $30,000 on the stuffing and the beast will stand half in the bar and half out on the verandah.

'Frog feels dry' (ST)

A large green frog, obviously feeling the colder nights, was found in a kettle of a Darwin resident recently. The frog came to the surface as the kettle was being filled from the tap. The frog jumped out escaping just before being boiled alive. As the paper states 'It brings a new definition to drinking green tea!'.

'A chink in star Crowe's tough image' (ST)

'Russell Crowe's tough guy image was dented yesterday with revelations the actor was concealing a less than macho secret in his Gladiator fight scenes'. He apparently needed special lightweight armour for the combat scenes because the standard garb was too heavy. Poor diddums. A source from London's Globe Theatre was quoted 'We were astonished because this is the same stuff that we ask actors of practically pensionable age to wear on stage every night'. Even the now deceased Oliver Reed wore the heavier armour.

‘Free food to fight obesity' (ST)

'Nutritious food will be subsidised or given free to people on low incomes under a national strategy to make Australians fit and healthy'. The draft plan is entitled Eat Well Australia. I can only wait until the program attracts a sponsor - any thoughts?

'Pasta, rice, bread not good for you' (ST)

'Forget about eating more bread, rice and pasta, because you could be making yourself hungrier, fatter and sick, says one researcher'. Dr Djordjevic, a biologist but not nutritionist, came to this conclusion based on the large quantities of starch, which converts to sugar, in diets featuring these foods. I wonder whether any of the above foods will be provided in the program listed above.

'Grog killed health man'

But the last word on nutrition, diets etc, at least for today - 'The founder of the Herbalife International company died of an accidental combination of alcohol and self-depressants, a coroner has ruled'. He was 44..
