Northern Territory News headlines - back to danger, adventure
'Hero pilot on highway - plane misses cars, power lines, homes'
A pilot made a spectacular emergency landing on the Arnhem Highway, just metres away from the Hard Croc Café at Humpty Doo. The plane managed to avoid just about everything except a power pole, knocking off a few plastic signs and loosening some timber posts. Senior Sergeant Geoff Sullivan was quoted as saying the pilot was lucky to be alive. An inspired bit of originality.
‘Hercules bellyflops'
Surprisingly this story is not about a TV show star coming to Darwin and diving into a pool but one of a United Nations plane carrying 29 people which was forced to make an emergency landing at Darwin Airport after its landing gear failed. It was Forward Commander Senior Sergeant Dean Maloney who was required to make the obligatory press statement reportedly praising the skill of the pilot saying lives could have been lost.
'Sunny day ahead after more showers'
Despite having received no rain during the day yesterday, the Weather Bureau again fearless predicted another day of showers but did indicate some sunshine for tomorrow. And as sure as night turns into day, the blue skies were on show again. How do they do it?
From the column 'NT and beyond'
NT Emergency Services obviously was having a big day. With Kofi Annan in town, car parking was in short supply in the city. Many parked on the old Hotel Darwin site only to find their exit blocked by a number of cars including two NT Emergency Services four wheel drives. There was no press statement issued.

For those who like finer things there is an international art exhibition featuring Claude Quiesse and for the nature lovers, an exhibition on Thylacines. So better get those tickets to Darwin now.
Match of the Round
Pick the margin - Palmerston vs Wanderers
A. Between 80 and 100 points
B. Between 100 and 120 points
C. Over 120 points.
Of the six expert tipsters in the paper today, six have tipped Palmerston. I guess the real interest will be to see if Wanderers can get on the scoreboard this week.
