19 January 2000
Not such an exciting day today.
'1438 lightning strikes in two hours' - NT News page 1
Yes folks, recorded in Darwin in two hours from 7.30pm on Monday. That's one strike every five seconds.
Headline of the Day - 'Whitney may face dope charges' - NT News a few pages on
Deliciously ambiguous. I don't think reading any further will hold as much enjoyment.
Marketing lesson Number 1 'Beware, termites are on the march' - NT News a little further back
Not only are there many dangers for residents of the NT, but there are also those for the residences. Interestingly this warning comes from a pest controller. Hmmm.
Marketing lesson Number 2
Do football and movie marathons mix? The NT News has two fabulous competitions - one to get tickets to the Ansett Australia Cup game between the West Coast Eagles and Essendon and the other to give away tickets to CMax Cinema's Movie Marathon.
But the entry form for one was on the back of the entry form for the other. Doh! - now I will have to buy two papers.
Spot the difference
The first three items on the Channel 8 news this evening were:
1. Australians warned to stay away from Lombok as religious violence affects tourism 2. Breakthrough in fuel contamination crisis fails 3. Road toll tourist warning video produced
The first three items on the ABC news this evening were:
1. Almost all Aussie tourists have left Lombok after 3 days of religious violence 2. Fuel crisis with no end in sight 3. Violence has erupted in picket lines in the BHP/Union dispute in WA.
