Sunday Territorian headlines
'Motlop footy family mourns' - page 1
'A young Territory footballer helped North Melbourne beat Carlton on Friday night without knowing his grandfather - patriarch of a Darwin sporting dynasty - was dying from injuries suffered in a road accident'. Is football that important?
‘Woman saved from floods'
Rushing floodwaters dragged a woman's car 70m along a creek yesterday. The woman was rescued by fire and rescue officers after she'd spent three hours on top of her car because she couldn’t swim. Two passengers were in the car but swam to safety.
'Dundee 3 won't be filmed in NT'
Shock! Horror! The film will be shot in Queensland and Los Angeles. Quoting from the paper 'The man who sold Crocodile Dundee to the world, Terry Jackman, said the success or failure of the third film would depend on the script. No kid. Mr Jackman is reportedly Tourism Queensland's chairman.
'Cheap Bali fares threaten airlines'
(It's) Merpati (and I'll die if I want do) Airlines is offering a $349 return fare to Bali from Darwin, undercutting Qantas and Ansett at $800 and Garuda at $750. Garuda's NT general manager has alluded to the fact that Garuda might now withdraw from the service.
'Baywatch now burden'
Why oh why would any government provide an incentive to attract the filming of Baywatch to their shores. Avalon residents told them to get stuffed, Queensland was to give away a reported $2 million but got blown out of the water when Hawaii offered a $9 million incentive package. Now the show's producer is demanding another $4m or he will take the show away. The guffaws can be heard from here - although we are still not sure who they are coming from.
Match of the Round
Palmerston 5.6 9.11 20.16 29.18 (192)
Wanderers 3.1 7.3 9.5 13.8 (86)
Another 100 point drubbing for the Wanderers but at least they scored 86 points more than last week. In fact their performance was reportedly turned around by the inclusion of Joe Jeffrey Jnr who gave the forward line the spark it needed. But unfortunately the half-forward, centre, half-back and back lines were just plain awful again.
