Northern Territory News headlines

'Shock death'

'One man was electrocuted and another suffered a severe electric shock yesterday while moving scaffolding at a worksite near Palmerston'. The dead man has left a wife who is eight months pregnant. The injured man suffered severe shock and muscle spasms and was in a stable condition at the hospital last night.

'Food prices to rise as petrol soars'

Transport companies have increased freight charges by 5% to cover the recent petrol price rises. So what is this likely to mean for Territorians, increases in prices of all commodities ferried in by road, not only food.

'Floods spark more food drops'

Airdrops of food are continuing to remote communities still isolated by floods. More than 11 tonnes of supplies have been delivered in four days. But there was a hitch on Sunday when time was lost due to required maintenance on the Chinook helicopter. The operation is expected to finish on Wednesday.

'Oil spill chaos'

Three hundred litres of hydraulic oil spilled from a truck yesterday in Alice Springs. In the ensuing 'chaos' (not), motorists were advised to avoid the route after several near accidents.

'Twin koalas renamed'

Two koalas are being labeled as the world's first identical twins (yeh sure). Anyway there has been an international judging competition to find new names for them to replace the dull Milo and Otis. And the winners were Euca and Lyptus.

'Dingo teaches NZ new tricks'

Have New Zealanders finally woken up to the fact the dingoes may be able to herd sheep. No - Donna is the first and only certified hearing dingo and has been given 'human status' - a privilege extended only to guide dogs for the blind in New Zealand. Donna had previously been banned from New Zealand under the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act.

'Oscars found in rubbish'

Quite an appropriate fate for the Oscars given the enormous amounts of garbage dished out by Hollywood. And in some sharp investigative reporting ' Fifty-five Oscar statues vanished last week and were presumed stolen'.
