'How fire killed my baby: mum tells'

Ten days ago a 6 month old baby was killed in a fire at Kulgera Roadhouse in Central Australia. The baby was travelling with his family to Darwin to visit his grandmother. Bad luck and a tragic accident. But what is sadder is revealed by his mother 'I was screaming 'someone get my baby out' but no one helped, they just stood there'. The mother rescued her other two children. The father eventually got the child out but he couldn’t be saved.

'Shrub saves cliff fall man'

Beware of cliffs. A 54-year-old man fell 10m down a cliff on The Esplanade in the City yesterday. Fortunately a shrub cushioned his fall and he escaped serious injury. The man and a female friend were seeking a 'camping spot' (sure) and underestimated the drop.

'New bra can think'

'Experts are developing a bra with a brain which adjusts its own straps'. Thank goodness we have experts on the case. Maybe the experts could develop a politician with a brain.

'Fear for rivers as pest found'

How long can the Territory escape mass invasion by critters nasty and damaging. With cane toads almost into Kakadu, today reveals the noxious pest, the gambusia or mosquito fish, has been found again in Ilparpa Swamp in Alice Springs. The fish was introduced to reduce mosquito numbers in World War II but was ineffective because it preferred lots of native fish and frogs eggs. It was believed to have been eradicated in the 1970s but apparently not.

'WWII fighter found on Bathurst Island'

And while the emergence of pests never ceases, new discoveries in the Territory never cease. 'Wreckage of a World War II aircraft has been found on Bathurst Island, just north of Darwin'. The plane was found by Telstra contractors clearing the site for trials of Surface-wave Extended Coastal Area Radar.
