'Territory bags wooden spoon'

'The Territory have finished last at the Qantas Nationals after a week of thrashings in Tasmania' .  Nice delicate reporting.  In a playoff for seventh, they lost 91-27 against SA, an improvement on their earlier round robin clash when they lost 98-24.  Coach Sandy McIntosh was reported as saying that this improvement shows they could be more competitive if the competition lasted another week.  Or perhaps year, decade, century.....

'Crocs power home to deny Eagles'

In another bottom-of-the-table clash Wanderers got beaten by 22 points by Southern Districts.  Sadly even Wanderers coach had to play after several first-team failed to turn up.  Maybe they need to change the teams name from Wanderers.

'Territory does it tough at Nationals'

The NT netball side came to the nationals hoping to finish better than 8th or last in laymans terms.  They have not won any of their five matches to date, their closest game (as far as the paper will tell us) being a 25 point loss to the ACT.  The NT captain was quoted "Our second half against the ACT was really good and we were starting to get our combination together'.  Shows all the skills of a politician explaining poor economic data.

'Blast for umpires after Eagles loss'

In surprise news (NOT), last week's winners Wanderers returned to the losers list against St Marys.  How could this be so.  Well Wanderers coach pointed to the 24-4 free kick decisions within 50m in favour of St Marys.  Shame, umpires, shame.  Or could it be that St Marys were within 50m six times as often?

'NT out to climb national ladder'

The Territory's senior netball side heads for Tasmania determined to improve on its number 8 national ranking.  One thing for sure is there is no risk of going down.  So we will watch with great interest.

'NTFL club fury over carnival team raid'

Miserable bastard of the week award.  NTFL clubs lost some of their indigenous players to last week's National Indigenous Carnival.  Darwin's Michael Athanasiou was quoted 'We didn't even know they were gone and I think it hurt us more than it hurt Wanderers I suppose.  Good luck to Wanderers but we can't fill our best side if our fellas are going to choof off on a jaunt - and that's all it was'.  And this is after Wanderers first win in 41 games.

'Wanderers coach gets rid of gorilla'

T
hey say all good things come to an end.  After 41 successive first grade losses, Wanderers NTFL team beat Darwin by 7 points yesterday.  Unlike last week when they snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, this week they hung on to beat a fast finishing Darwin.  Even Ronald Kenny kicking the ball from the goal square into the man on the mark in the first quarter didn't squash the spirit of a team that is destined to make this year's wooden spoon race a genuine contest.  Darwin and Southern Districts, realising that they have buckley's chance of winning the competition have decided that the next best thing is coming last.
