Welcome to Finnegan & Nessa's World |
Welcome to Finnegan & Nessa's corner of the Internet. We adopted Finnegan in August 2002 from Boxer Buddies Rescue and Adoption Inc when he was approximately 2 years old (he is now almost 8). Finnegan is not our first boxer but he is our first rescue. Finnegan's original owner purchased him when he was about 3 months old from a Mall Pet Store, which means he came from a Puppy Mill, to find out more about Puppy Mills and why you should never buy pets from a pet store click here and here. He lived with two other male boxers, and the older of the two just didn't like Finnegan so he came to Boxer Buddies to find a new home - lucky for me :) Finnegan is the most loving and affectionate dog I have ever know, he thinks he is a 70 lb lap dog, he is also the silliest dog I have ever know who acts like a 6 month old puppy most of the time. There is never a day that goes by without him making us laugh at his silly antics. Finnegan is a white boxer, with two different colored eyes, one brown eye and one pale blue eye, he is all white except for a few spots on his ears and a fawn patch at the top of his tail. To learn more about White Boxers click here. His favorite things to do are play with any kind of ball especially ones that squeak, go for long walks in the woods and snuggle. I do some volunteer work for Boxer Buddies so I used to bring home foster brothers and sisters for Finnegan to play with. He would usually sulk about that for the first few days but then he would make friends with the foster. That was until Nessa came along. Nessa originally came to us as a foster dog, but we decided she needed to stay. So now Finnegan has a sister. We adopted Nessa in October 2003, when she was 2.5 years old (she is now 7). I don't know if it was the fact that she was so terrified of everything and everyone that broke my heart or the fact that she immediately latched herself on to Finnegan that made me decide she had to stay. We changed her name to Nessa when we adopted her, I am from Dublin Ireland so I thought they should both have Irish names. Nessa is small even for a female boxer, she weights 50 lbs, and is regularly mistaken for a puppy. Nessa also started her days in a pet store and most likely came from a puppy mill. Before coming into rescue Nessa and her brother Jeter spent about 22 hours a day 7 days a week crated, with the result that Nessa is now very shy and timid, but her confidence grows daily. At first she hated going for walks and meeting new people, but now she loves her walks and is becoming much more social. Attending obedience training really helped build her confidence. When we adopted both Finnegan and Nessa neither of them had any obedience traning, but have both now completed Beginners Obedience Training, Intermediate Obedience Training, and in November 2003 Finnegan earned his CGC certification, and in May 2004 Nessa earned her CGC certification. |
