When May I Again Draw Near?
When May I Again Draw Near?
By Kelly Kirkpatrick
Why, Lord, was I turned away once I'd beheld the
sight
of Your love's radient, burnished rays and respite
in the Light?
How long must I sojourn here, a soul returned
to earth ...
when will You Your plan make clear ~ the purpose
of my birth?
When may I again draw near and this time truly
stay?
When my lost child's laughter hear as she and
angels play?
Hold once more in longing arms the brother I so
mourn?
See safe at last from worldly harms the sister
from me torn?
So many I have lost and grieve are gathered with
You, Lord~
fleeting glimpses thrice perceived in ventures
past this world.
How long must I wander here, a mortal chained
to earth?
When may I again draw near... find measure in
my worth?
What is my role in earth's last act ~ what part
to me assigned ...
that once well played will seal the pact ~ my
destiny divined?
Where upon the stage of life does Your will bid
me stand?
When ends the suffering, pain and strife once
I've done all I can?
When, at last in your embrace, will I be carried
home?
Behold once more Your holy face, no longer doomed
to roam
in places evil, dark, and deep where wounded hearts
lament ...
the love they gave but could not keep and precious
trust ill spent?
Until then I 'll journey on, still clinging to
the hope
that soon will come my final dawn, sweet peace
within it cloaked.
And as my weeping, weary heart puts forth its
final beat,
let my life Your grace impart ~ Your plan for
it complete.
