Three exersises in automatic drawing. Not quite as automatic as they should be, though.     2001, EAP
Three more exersises in automatic drawing... I developed this stringy pattern that I really like, someone in my class remarked that they looked like techno wavelengths or something... influenced more by Nine Inch Nails.

The black part surrounding the feathers in this painting was originally blue, but I found that to be too much colour.

Greek mythology - Persephone, goddess of winter. Daughter of Zeus, king of all the gods, and Demeter, goddess of the harvest. Hades, god of the underworld, brother of Zeus, kidnapped Persephone because she was so beautiful, and he wanted her as his wife. Zeus and Helios saw this. Helios, god of the sun, also brother of Zeus, told Demeter what happened, and she was so sad that things stopped blooming and the world was in desolate winter. So, Zeus sent Hermes, the messenger, to tell Hades to give Persephone back. He did so reluctantly... but he had given her a pommegranate, from which she had eaten 6 seeds. So, Persephone was forever connected to the underworld, and stays there for 6 months out of the year, winter.

I decided to draw Persephone because she was mentioned in The Odyssey by Homer, which we finished reading in english. In my drawing, you can see the pommegranate and 6 seeds. In this drawing, Persephone is in Hades, the underworld, land of the dead. During our critique in art class, this drawing got a surprising amount of attention.

In this assignment, which spanned the entire first half of the year, we wrote multiple essays about ourselves and our beliefs, and they were accompanied by pictures. Here, you will find both the essays and the pictures... I urge you to please read the essays, and even write to me to tell you what you think.
Title : Black Overhead Marker
This represents the hidden elements inside things that one takes to be simple. The strip on the right is a bleed of the pigments inside a black overhead marker.

This is me, painting! Wheee! Sort of a continuation of my scribble angel series, done with watered down black tempera in art class. I'm actually starting to like tempra... ahh!

I whipped this up with the same batch of paint that I used for horse #6. No, it's not based on a dream I had... it just seemed dream-like. It was fun to make, I like it alot despite it's simplicity.

A still life. I rather like this one, especially the reflections on the blue box on the far left side of the picture.

I love foxes! I painted this one out of a book. When the town art show came around on the 4th of July, I had to pick out 4 pieces to enter. I asked my sister's opinion, and she said "You HAVE to enter the fox, because it's so colourful!" I wouldn't have entered it otherwise, but I did... and out of the 4 I entered (the other 3 were black and white) this one actually won 2nd place. Hmm...
