The Current Situation on First Wave Season 4 Renewal

On June 1, 2001, Chris Brancato, creator and producer of First Wave, stopped in the official Sci-Fi channel fan board to let fans know he'd heard First Wave wasn't being renewed for a fourth season. Here's the post # 6310 from Chris, for details.

While the situation appears hopeless for a Season 4 to many, particularly those who participated in the last campaign, some fans have heard informally, although no immediate plans for a fourth season, it's still up in the air.

This tiny ray of hope, that First Wave Season 4 may still be possible, has given 'hard core' fans HOPE to try again to persuade Sci-Fi and the new execs at FreMantle Media to give First Wave a Season 4.

Brief History of Oct-December 2000 'Save First Wave Season 4 Renewal Campaign'

First Wave fans lobbied their 'fingers-to-the-bone' between October and December 2000, sending snail mail and email to Sci-Fi and Pearson executives who co-produce First Wave. Fans also gathered 1026 fan signatures for an on-line petition (still seen at http://www2.petitiononline.com/fwhq/ ) to help convince the co-producers Sci-Fi in the U.S. and Pearson/Peace Arch to renewal First Wave for a Season 4.

While Sci-Fi gave a 'casual nod' to renew First Wave for a Season 4 this past March, Pearson remained quite. Fans discovered that Pearson had been bought out by a German mega-media company at the time the renewal decision was going on. Additionally, Pearson had gone though a reorganization between February and May 2000. All the execs that got our last campaign letters were gone or moving to other positions.

Why The New Campaign To "UNEARTH FIRST WAVE SEASON 4/5" ?

The new executives helming Pearson were named this past May 2001. They are newly settled in their positions and haven't heard First Wave fans earlier campaign letters requesting renewal of First Wave for Season 4.

Comments were made at one point about First Wave 'not making the numbers'. Interestingly enough, Peace Arch had a revenue increase of 263% from their production slate which included Season 3 of First Wave. I'd say First Wave contributed to some damn good numbers there. The Sci-Fi channel, was recently named as one of the Top 10 Cable Channels in Ratings. During what period? You guessed it. While First Wave Season 3 was on their production slate during First Qtr 2001. Ratings get advertising dollars. So, seems like First Wave is really doing pretty good for all the co-producer companies!

First Wave has been an international hit in countries like; Africa, Berlin, Germany, France, Japan, Korea, Portuegel, Russia, South America, Spain, the U.K., and of course Canada and the U.S. It was nominated this past March for a cable award in the U.K. and has enough show presence to warrent an
Official First Wave convention in February 2002 in the U.K.

The UNEARTH FIRST WAVE SEASONS 4/5 Fan Campaign

Fans love First Wave for so many reasons. Some love the slightly dark and foreboding sci-fi stories by Chris Brancato and his writing team. Others love the buddy aspect of Cade & Eddie. Many go for the role duality of Roger Cross and Traci Lords. Still others get absolutely wild for the sexy portrayal of alien hunter Cade Foster, by Sebastian Spence.

If you really love First Wave, please come join us one last time to try to Unearth First Wave Season 4/5. The show had a premature burial. It's not dead! It's only resting <g>! Sticking with the campaign theme, fans would like the execs to DIG A LITTLE DEEPER for renewal funds. Help fans DIG UP a First Wave Season 4/5 and bring it back to life.

After much discussion and more First Wave fan email then this webmaster expected, many fans like the idea of DIGGING UP First Wave, but prefer including the infamous "Packets Of Salt" (representing ways to confound the Gua) in their snail mail letters to executives. If Salt Packets aren't for you, feel free to send your letters NAKED. Just please join us in sending them.

Also, many prefer
sample letters to cut & paste. Separate samples will be provided for each co-producer company. To get you started, here's a sample letter to Sci-Fi. More are coming. Please check back.

Please find addresses for letters below. Only 8 episodes of Season 3 left on Sci-Fi, starting July 21st.
Time is running out...
