Over the years I have enabled many species of fish to breed by
providing the
correct conditions. Notice I avoid saying "I have bred them" because that is
entirely down to the fish themselves.
Eventually I came up with the breeding tank described below which is
not claimed as original
as I have assimilated so much reading and discussion
with fellow enthusiasts that its roots
could very well lie in history.
This simple, but extremely effective, tank is illustrated below and I should
mention that
dimensions are not crucial, provided there is sufficient
gallonage for the proposed stock. I
personally use scrap glass left over from
other projects or broken tanks.
REMOVING FRY
I never net fry.
I have procured from my wife's kitchen an item she used for
basting the Sunday
joint, with which I can syphon fry or eggs. This gadget is a glass/plastic
container about 8 inches long and about 1.5 inches wide at the top where
there is a rubber
bulb for expelling air or whatever and the other end narrows
to about 0.25 inches.
One could achieve the desired result by using an open ended test tube or
similar but the
degree of control exercised by the baster suits me.
