January 18, 19, 20, 21, 2001 Brooksville Raid, Brooksville, Florida. This is a Hardys brigade event. The battlefield is very big. This is one of the best events in Florida. Help is needed for the school day on Friday the 19th. This event has lots of sutlers and lots of reenactors. There is almost as much going on as in the Olustee event. Two battles one Sat. one Sun. Ladies tea, ball Sat night, church Sun. morning. Held at the Sand Hill Boy Scout Camp on US Hwy 50.The battle is 10 miles West of Brooksville. The entrance is on Hwy 50. Take Hwy. 50 West. February 3-4, 2001 Renningers/Townsend battle (Mt. Dora) Two battles. Sat. battle 3pm, Sun. battle 2pm Living history exhibits, folk music, weaponry demonstrations, authentic camps, ladies tea Sat. 11am, Sunday church service (11:30am), and sutlers. Usual amenities. Cash prize for largest unit and best drills. Dress ball (8pm) with 97th Regimental String Band. Full scale artillery, cavalry, and soldiers in period dress and weaponry. Cavalry wanted. Bounty paid for artillery ($50) and cavalry ($15). This event is North of Orlando on Hwy 441 just a couple of miles from Mt. Dora. Look for the signs. February 16-17-18, 2001 The 25th annual Battle of Olustee (North Florida) Olustee National Battlefield. This is one of the largest reenactments in Florida and takes place on the actual site where the Battle of Ocean Pond (Olustee) was fought. There are miles of sutlers on sutler row. Anything you need for reenacting can be found here. No reenactor registration fee. Full scale artillery only. Education day (Friday 16th) The Ladies of the Golden Tea Cup will organize educational tours for the school kids. All individuals or groups interested in presenting a 10-15min. demonstration, contact us13ind@aol.com <mailto:us13ind@aol.com> or call (904) 731-8383 to indicate the program you would like to present. All presenters must attend an orientation meeting on Thursday the 15th in the evening. Volunteers are needed to help during the school tours as tour guides. The guides will escort kids in small groups accompanied by their teacher or chaperone around numbered, marked stations at 15 min. intervals. NO PETS. Due to concerns for public safety, no fur bearing animals such as cats and dogs will be allowed during the reenactment activities. This does not apply to horses or birds. Snakes, turtles and iguanas were not addressed in the update I received. The Ladies of the Golden Tea Cup will be organizing civilian activities for the first time this year. The program will consist of a workshop on Saturday and a nationally known speaker on civilian/ladies issues on Sunday between church services and the battle. Get there early. The crowds get big fast and sign-in and parking can be a hassle. Last year the weather was perfect but be prepared for cold and rain. The battlefield is located just twenty miles East of Lake City and I-75 and 50 miles West of Jacksonville. Take I-75 to Hwy. 90 exit. Go East on Hwy. 90. The field is about 20 miles East of Lake City on Hwy. 90 Drive slow the signs have been small and hard to see in the past. February 23-24-25, 2001 Battle of Crystal River (Yulee Sugar Mill) The battle will take place at the new location (same place as last year) There is a 160 acre battlefield and camping area. Proceeds go to historical preservation in the Citrus County area and to the preservation of the Yulee Sugar Mill Civil War site. No charge to preregistered reenactors; $2.00 for walk ons. Powder ration to all soldiers who are preregistered. School day is the 23rd. All reenactors that help with school day will receive a free BBQ meal Friday night and an extra powder ration. More than 30 sutlers will be present. Hay, wood and water provided. Cavalry welcome. Lots of sutlers. Education day Friday 10am-2pm. Two full scale battles. One on Saturday and one on Sunday both at 2pm. Ladies tea Sat. morning. Guest speakers throughout the weekend. Sat. night ball. Authentic or modern camping on site. March 3-4, 2001 Battle of Natural Bridge (North Florida) This battle is held on the original battlefield located 12 miles south of Tallahassee. Sponsored by the Florida Park Service and Leon Rifles. No modern campsite is provided. The Natural Bridge Event is held at the Natural Bridge State Historic Site which is located six miles east of Woodville. The best way to find the site is to take I-10 to Tallahassee, exit onto US 27 (North Monroe Street-Exit 29) where you will travel south of US 27 (Monroe Street) until you reach the Florida Capitol. At this junction, US 27 will turn to the left. Do not continue on US 27, simply continue to travel south on Monroe Street. A few miles south of town, Monroe Street becomes Woodville Highway. Continue to travel on Woodville Highway until you reach the town of Woodville. Turn left on Natural Bridge Road, go six miles to the site. The park is located at the point where the paved road ends. March 3-5, 2001 Haines City (South of Orlando) Living history This is a small event. About 50 to 80 reenactors are needed for a living history presentation. No battle but there will be a "hanging" for desertion and there may be a few shots exchanged here or there. Please no horses or cannon, the field is not big enough. Dismounted cavalry is O.K. March 9-10 Wauchula (South of Lakeland) Living History and cracker festival. This will take place in downtown Wachula on the main street at the court house green. This will be a living history with minimal firing to be done. The host would like to see if we can get every branch of the service represented. They need artillery. Both Union and Confederate reenactors are wanted. The city of Wachula is providing lunch for all participants. They would like about 30 reenactors to show up for this "time line" or a living history. March 16-17-18, 2001 Battle at Narcoossee Mill This event is southeast of Orlando near St. Cloud and takes place on the shore of East Lake Tohopekaliga. The battlefield is on 150 acres of open and wooded land. The event is sponsored by the Jacob Summerlin Camp #1516 Sons of Confederate Veterans. The 2nd Fl. Cavalry will be on site checking coggins papers for horses and safety check for the mounted troopers. All copies of coggins and reenactor registrations are to be given to Jacob Summerlin Camp officials at the event registration tent. This was a good event last year. Friday the 16th is School Day which begins at 9:30am. Reenactors are needed to provide demonstrations. Saturday the 17th the park opens at 10am and the battle will be at 2pm. Night cannonfire at 7pm. April 6, 7, 8, 2001 Battle of Flat Lake (Winter Garden, near Disney World). This is a weekend long skirmish / tactical with two main battle objectives (one Sat. and one Sun.). Night battles O.K. until 10pm. Lots of impromptu fun. sponsored by Robert and Lorraine Niepert, "mayor bob". There is a $5 registration fee to cover expenses. Any extra is donated to the Civil War cause. All uniformed reenactors including women and children in period dress are welcome. No spectators please. We have no accommodations for the general public. There is a large 120 acre battlefield with some wooded areas to hide and fight in. You may fight when you want but there will be two battles with objectives to capture that will be officiated over by field judges. A ladies tea with door prizes will be held on Saturday at 11am. This event has never nor will it ever be cancelled due to weather. We will fight in a hurricane or a forest fire if necessary. No Name Sutler will be on site. April 21-22, 2001 Battle of Huntley's Farm A problem has risen here. The event at Huntley's Farm is most likely cancelled for this year. The owner of the property has moved flea market vendors onto the field (due to the sale of the Mustang Flea Market). Ed is still talking with the owner but at this time it does not look promising. If there are any changes I will let you know. Pinellas Park fair grounds (St. Petersburg area) at the Wagon Wheel Flea Market. Saturday battle at 2pm and a ball from 8pm to 11pm. Sunday there will be a battle at 2pm There is no fee for reemactors. Fire wood and hay provided. Modern bathroom facilities. Period and modern camping allowed but period is preferred. Take I-275 South to Gandy Blvd. exit Go West on 76th Street. As you pass the flea market go to the far West entrance of the fair grounds (in open field).
