Hi everyone,

[You guys know me as the dark Filipino loud mouth that sits stage right third row.]

Matt Krysiak, Rachel Cogan, Bianca Almeida, Vincent Piziali, and I have been meeting with various members of the university regarding our problem with TR.

The basis of these meetings is to make the lectures in TR's EE3310 class more efficient.
1. Make the homework apply to the exam format (i.e. not just problems but also ask us to explain a concept in our own words like the exams)
2. Give the students an outline of the exam to ease the study process (i.e. not just read the book and memorize concepts that may not be on the exam)
3. Answer questions about homework problems (i.e. a student came to Monali's office and ask for help on HW, TR will not let Monali help that student)
4. Not just cover 1/5 of the exam material or course material (i.e. three weeks of the diode equation)
5. Help students better understand the concepts in the book by lecturing about it (i.e. TR brushing a student off when she asked what equation TR was writing on the board)
6. Have the lectures not go off in a tangent (i.e. Circuits materials currently)
7. The instructor has no right to belittle his students to the point they have no confidence in the course anymore. (i.e. TR's comment about students going to the depths of HELL)

We are not learning our potential in this class. I have asked several peers about this class and we all have the same problem. We all want to learn and pass this class.

Our first meeting was with Dr. Cantrell Associate Dean of the School of Engineering and Computer Science and also a committee member of Effective Teaching. He listened to our claims and suggested that we have a meeting with Dr. Hansen Head of EE Dept. He also helped us set up a meeting with Dr. Overzet Associate Dept Chair who has taught EE 3310 several times in the past. We had this meeting today and came up with several solutions to help us understand the concepts of Electronic Devices and better our chances in passing the class.
1. Students need a resource for HW solutions and Q and A
2. Students needs to keep going to TR's class just in case he does put random lecture materials on the last exam.
3. Students will need an appropriate outline for the course and exams

Dr. Overzet is going to talk to Dr. Hansen about our problem and proposes to conduct a separate tutoring session for this class. This session will help us with the homework, any questions we may have regarding the current material, and providing an actual outline of the course.

The purpose of this email is to inform all of you the processes that we have been going through and to set a convenient time for those in class that are interested in the session. So far, Dr. Overzet does not want to have the session on Friday night (his wife will kill him ^_^). Also, remember that we will need a classroom for this session so certain times and days cannot work. For example, Mondays at 2pm may not work because all classrooms are taken. Usually after an 8:15 pm class some classrooms are free.

Please let us know if you are interested and what time is most convenient for you (PLEASE REPLY ALL). Dr. Overzet would like a time and day by TOMORROW AFTERNOON OCT 31st. Thanks Guys. Good Luck.

Aimee Medina-Howard

PS. NOBODY CAN TELL TR AND MONALI THIS. Dr. Overzet said it would be best if he didn't know.
