The entrance of the apartment unfolds gracefully into the dining area, an inviting open space with high ceilings. Decorated with a rich assortment of teak furniture, fine art and antiques, there is an atmosphere of subdued elegance. Green shuttered doors open onto a garden veranda, filling the space with natural light throughout the day.

The kitchen is to the right of the dining area. Sleek and compact, it is fully equipped with all the modern conveniences: oven, stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, coffee press. A kitchen hutch off to the side holds essentials such as pots, dishes, cups and stemware while an ingenious antique cupboard converts to a bar or extra countertop, as needed.

Once a municipal building used by Florentine officials, the building was later converted into apartments. In what was perhaps a conference room at one time, the living room boasts a dazzling original, and handsomely restored, 18th-century fresco painted by Giuseppe Poggi, the architect of Florence's famous vistapoint, Piazzale Michelangelo.

The elegance and comfort of the furnishings makes this room perfect for entertaining guests or a cozy evening in. A TV, VCR and stereo system is discreetly tucked away in a cabinet. The sofa converts to a queen-sized bed, easily accomodating two people. Located off the living room is one of two full bathrooms in the apartment.

This private garden veranda offers a truly rare luxury within the center of the city. Potted mediterranean plants overhang antiqued frescos and line the patio, making this sunny spot a charming and pleasant respite from the hustle and bustle of Florence.

Up a flight of stairs, you will find an airy loft-style bedroom and full bathroom. A king-sized bed is draped with mosquito netting that descends from an angled ceiling. The ceiling, shared with the dining area below, is decorated with a contemporary hand-painted design.

Aged wooden beams and spots of brickwork are left exposed, some of the many architectural features to be found throughout the apartment, revealing the integrity and history of the original building.

Up another small set of steps, you find a modest study where you might draft letters or postcards and find ample storage for your luggage. The skylight overhead opens up to rooftop views of Florence and the magnificent Duomo.
