Florida WoodSpirits - Info Page
Here is a brief overview of my carvings with a few details. All of my carvings are original (there are no reproductions or castings). I can usually duplicate a particular expression if wanted, but this depends on the wood used and how it carves. I'm continuously experimenting with expressions and styles, so come back from time to time for updates; for instance, I'm currently working on a series of 4-segment carvings on 2" x 2" x 3" bass wood blocks (4 faces per block). If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me at floridawoodspirits@yahoo.com:

Avacado - Available
My wall carving faces average 12-18 inches high, but are occasionally larger. Each carvings takes between 8 and 12 hours, depending upon details and scope, over two to three days. This gives me the opportunity to make adjustments as I go and allows me a fresh perspective at each session. I use a variety of found-wood, including, oak, cypress, ficus, avacado, lime, orange, and other Florida wood.
Hiking Sticks
Dual Face - Sold
My hiking sticks are usually between 48" and 72" in height and most include a leather strap near the top to aid in gripping. Each stick takes between 2 and 3 hours, depending upon details and finish. Dual face sticks like the eagle/mountian man shown take a little longer. I use a variety of found-wood, including, oak, cypress, ficus, avacado, lime, orange, and other Florida wood.
Walking Canes
Moses - Unavailable
My walking canes are cut long and trimmed to fit each customer. To measure a stick properly, stand straight (in shoes) and have someone measure the distance between your wrist joint and the ground. Each cane takes 2 and 3 hours, depending upon details and finish, and each includes a rubber tip to prevent splintering of the tip. Caution: these cares are not orthopedic devices and should never be used to bear your  weight or assist in walking. I use a variety of Florida wood.
Tree Carvings
Avacado Tree
My tree carvings average 18-24 inches high, but can be carved as large as desired--depending on the circumference of the tree. Each carvings takes between 3 and 5 hours, depending upon details and scope. These carvings do not harm the tree because they penetrate only a portion of the outer (live) layers on one side of the tree. When finished, I seal the carving to keep out fungus and disease. The carving shown was done on my mom's avacado tree, but I can and have carved on most any tree available, as long as the tree is large.
Christmas Ornaments
Snowman 1
My Christmas ornaments are carved from bass wood or soft pine I get at my wood supply store or local craft store. Each ornament is 2" to 4" tall and takes from 2 to 3 hours to carve, depending upon details and style. The carvings shown here and in my gallery were given to my family, but I'm already working on more of the same.
