MYLES STANDISH COLONY HISTORY

The Myles Standish Colony was organized on 13 May 1975 by a small gathering of Naples residents who were Mayflower members in other communities. The first meeting and luncheon was held at the Naples Bath and Tennis Club with 10 Charter Members and 4 prospective members in attendance. Lt. Colonel Charles W. Phifer, Deputy Governor of the Society of Mayflower Descendants in the State of Florida, presented the Charter to the new Colony and installed the first officers.

OUR OBJECTIVES

To perpetuate to a remote posterity the memory of our Pilgrim Fathers.

To maintain and defend the principle of civil and religious liberty as set forth in the Compact of the Mayflower, "For the Glorie of God, the advancement of the Christian Faith, and honor of our countrie."

In order to achieve our objectives, our Colony has an active program for Junior Membership and Education in local Lee and Collier County Schools, as well as a program for purchase of General Society of Mayflower Descendants (GSMD) reference books for local libraries for genealogical research.  We also raise funds for the Florida State Mayflower Society Scholarship Fund.
