FLUFFOPOLIS

How YOU doin'?

Why, hello there. My name is KATHLEEN, aka Katy. I'm a Smith College student (class of '07) from Oxon Hill, MD, though technically I live in Fort Washington. Fort Washington is in Prince George's County, about 15 minutes outside of DC. I've always lived there, and went to Oxon Hill Elementary, Oxon Hill Middle, and Oxon Hill High School (class of '03). I wouldn't exactly call any of these "world-class" institutions, despite what the principals of OHHS like to claim.

I love Smith College sooo much. I live in Baldwin House, again, which I love soooo much. I didn't realize how good we have it at Smith until I had a year abroad during my junior year at Bristol University in England. I lived in Wills Hall, one of the nicest student residences on campus, but wow, it really can't compare.

At Smith, I major in Government, and should register as a minor in Ancient Studies ASAP. Yes, I adore both politics and ancient Greece and Rome. Hopefully my major will at least prepare me for some sort of job. Politically, I'm a Democrat and am fairly liberal, especially socially. I'm very pro-choice and pro-gay rights.

On a more personal note, my favorite colors are purple and indigo, and I love Japanese food and sugary things. My favorite music includes Madonna (my teenage idol), Magnetic Fields and other Stephin Merritt projects, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Rasputina, and the Smiths/Morrissey. The first band I really got into were the Spice Girls in middle school, and I STILL love them. I was really into anime (and yaoi) while growing up, but I've weened out of that obsession, thankfully, because it's an expensive (and super embarrassing) one. I'm not embarrassed about Sailor Moon being my hero while I was a kid, though. Now I like reading, watching movies, listening to music, and typical media consumption things like that.

I've been to most of the states in the US, several places in Canada during family trips, all three parts of Great Britain while I was abroad, and Kyoto, Japan during a first-year seminar at Smith. I took Japanese in high school, but it sucked and I didn't learn much, so I took it again for a year at Smith. It was awesome, but Bristol didn't offer it, because they're racist or something and don't have any non-European languages, so I haven't continued my studies. I took Spanish for years in middle and high school, but Lord knows I don't remember anything of that.

Things I dislike include bullies, and being woken up by garbage trucks and construction work, which unfortunately happens a lot at Baldwin. :(
