Urameshi Yusuke was thought to be dead after saving a kid from a car accident. After going through a trial (an egg being the judge...) he was allowed to return to life, because it was not his time yet. After this strange ordeal, he had to become the Spirit Detective or Reikai Tantei. The job of a Spirit Detective is to solve cases or such for the leader of the Spirit World (Reikai).

Yusuke is supposedly a punk and is very rash and reckless. He does like to pick fights and in the manga, he even smokes. Despite all of this, he's a good guy on the inside and cares deeply for his mother and his friends.
