Formed in 1994 after the sudden and untimely death of Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain, the Foo Fighters have now become one of the most popular bands today. In the beginning, the Foo Fighters consisted of lead vocalist, guitarist, and drummer Dave Grohl, guitarist Pat Smear, bass guitarist Nate Mendel, and drummer William Goldsmith.  Together, they released the platinum-selling Foo Fighters debut album. Probably the biggest hit from that album is 'Big Me', as the band is remembered best for the song and especially the video. But, their second album, the platinum -selling 'The Colour and the Shape', may be even better then their first. Featuring hits such as 'Monkey Wrench', 'Everlong', and 'My Hero', it's no wonder the Foo Fighters have become so popular. There new release (on radio only), a cover of Baker Street, is quickly climbing the Modern Rock charts (at least in South Florida). Plus, the just -released 'Walking After You' has become a hit all over the country.  Unfortunately, after the release of their current album, William Goldsmith quit the band, and was replaced by former Alanis Morisette drummer   Taylor Hawkins.  Then, at the 1997 MTV Video Music Awards, Pat Smears also quit, and was replaced by Franz Stahl.  Both quit due to the fact that they no longer wanted to tour anymore. Goldsmith now plays for Seattle bands, and Smears now does specials for MTV. At the moment, the Foo Fighters are doing a tour of Western Canada, and, hopefully, will be touring the U.S.
