A Few Notes on Conviction:
Conviction is how
dedicated a Hunter is to the Hunt and his Creed.
A Creed's Starting
Conviction is simply how much natural devotion
someone of that mindset has. Once someone earns
10 Conviction points (earning and using
Conviction will be discussed below) they may
trade those points in for a Virtue point, thus
re-starting at their Starting Conviction. Virtue
and Conviction points are rewarded, however, at
the Story-teller's discretion.
Conviction can be risked,
only on rolls related to edges or dealing
directly with the supernatural not on rolls where
willpower would be applicable, by taking a number
of the Conviction points the character has and
adding them to said roll's dice pool. If you are
successful you get to keep the risked points and
an extra point. Fail and you lose the risked
points. Botch and you lose all Conviction, and
therefore it's advantages, to be recovered at the
beginning to the next story or at the
Sory-teller's discretion.
Conviction can only be so
risked once per scene, and the point spent to
activate Second Sight (see the Second Sight
section) does not count towards that limit.
Lastly, Conviction can be
gained by the above-stated way, as well as:
Fighting spectacularly for the Hunt, following
your Creed extremely well, and once more other
things along these lines that the Story-teller
may choose. Inversely, Conviction can be lost by
going for long periods without working towards
your Creed or the Hunt.
A Few Notes on Virtue
Points:
Virtue points can be
divided among the three primary Virtues in any
fashion, so long as no other Virtue surpasses
your character's Primary.
The same is true of the
Creeds within a Virtue: The points can be spread,
but no other Creed's points can exceed the number
in the character's primary Creed.
Edges have to be bought in
order; no getting a Level 2 without first getting
the Level one. Therefore the cost in Virtue
points is this: Lvl 1/one point cost/one point
total, Lvl 2/two points cost (three points total,
because you have to take the one point the Level
one Edge cost into consideration), Lvl 3/three
point cost (six points total), Lvl 4/4 point cost
(10 points total).
Considering that the
maximum number of Virtue points is 10, you cannot
spread your points among other Virtues/Creeds and
hope to reach Lvl 4 in your primary Creed.
At 7 Virtue points you
must take a Derangement (i.e., a mental illness
of some specific sort, usually related to the
activities of the Hunt), and add another for
every Virtue point gained up to the limit of 10.
A Few Notes on Triggers:
Edges don't require a
Trigger to work, but because the situation of the
Imbuing process, most Hunters have their own
little ways of activating their Edges, whether it
be by brandishing a cross or screaming
"Burn!"
