Samina Jain Pledge Line: Athena Position in the sorority: PR Committee-Alumni School in Georgetown: SFS Graduation Year: Class of 2003 Major and Concentration: International Political Economy with an Asian Studies Certificate Why did you join the sorority: I am primarily interested in developmental issues, and I joined the sorority to build contacts with others in the international arena, and to meet strong-willed women with diverse goals. I enjoy the sense of sisterhood and support of the sorority, and our activities, such as speaker events. Activities in Georgetown: I am involved in Arth, a South Asian-American theatre group, The Georgetown Journal (Layout Editor and former Co-Editor), Take Back the Night, South Asian Society, and the John Carroll Scholars (Teaching Assistant and Mentor). I also was a tutor/mentor for the DC Schools Program last year. Jobs and Internships: 1. Assistant Organizer of the Georgetown India Forum, October 2000: Assisted Professor James Clad in organizing the Georgetown India forum, an off-the-record Track II conference centered around the Indian information technology sector, China-India relations, and the Indian energy situation. 2. SAT Verbal Teacher for Capital Educators, Feb-Oct 2000: Taught SAT Verbal skills to high school students for two semesters. Average class size 10 students. I. I plan to study abroad at the London School of Economics junior year. I have lived in Holland, Malaysia, and Singapore, and have traveled extensively in Southeast Asia and northern India. |
