Crocodylidae
There are 23 living crocodilian species but only 13 crocodiles, confused? Well you see the crocdilian species consits of the crocodiles, alligator, caimen and gharial. The 13 croc species are the American crocodiles, the slender snouted , the orinoco, the australian fresh water, australian salt water, nile croc, new guinea, mugger, cuban (the pic above), the siamese, the african dwarf and last of all the false Gahrial which is called this because it looks like a Gahrial but is actually a croc. Crocodiles feed on all sorts ranging from mammels to fish and even birds. adult crocs have even been known to eat the young of there own species.

The easiest way to tell a crocodile from the others is by their snouts alligators have wider snouts and Gahrials and Caimens have thinner ones. The comunicate with high pitched calls when their young to bellows and hisses when they are fully mature. The larges croc is the Australian Salt Water which can grow over 6 meteres and have a body mass of over 1.5 tonnes. Though some people arguer that there are larger snakes its very doubtful. The males like most animals are larger than the females.The largest Captive croc is Yai he is 19 feet and 8 inches (6.0m) from head to tail and is only 30 years of age. But the largest croc ever recorded was a massive 10.1 m thats 33.1 feet. It was killed in the bay of bengal and it was so large they could only bring back its head.
