Pets bring just as much joy to our lives as we do to theirs. Whether your pet is a rambunctious puppy or a placid cat, they find ways to affect our everyday lives and to warm our hearts.

However, owning a pet is not as easy as swiping a credit card; with it comes many responsibilities. While feeding, grooming, and veterinary bills are all a major factor in owning a pet, the thing some owners fail to consider before making that decision is...who can care for my special pet while I'm not around?

As a responsible owner, it is important to be able to recognize the need for an animal to be supervised when you're away on business or pleasure. No matter what the size of the animal is, there should always be someone available to feed, water, and cuddle your furry friend. Leaving an ample amount of food and water can prove to be a disaster. Dishes get tipped, water bottles leak dry...there should always be someone coming in to check on your pet while you are away.

Having been an employee of one of Canada's largest pet chains for four years, in addition to working at several renowned veterinary clinics in the GTA, I've witnessed my share of clients going on last-minute vacations and not having anyone to supervise their pet. Many of these customers, stocking up on hamster seed or cat litter, complained of the ridiculous costs of house sitting with large companies, or related boarding horror stories.

For Paws is exactly what it says: we're here for your four (or two, or no) legged friends when you can't be. We believe that all animals deserve to be cared for, while realizing that not all pet owners can afford the often steep rates for pet sitting. Your pet will return home healthy and happy, having experienced his or her own mini-vacation. We also believe that planning your trip shouldn't have to include an extensive budget for a pet sitter. You have enough on your mind without worrying about the affordability of quality care.

My dedication to animals stems from my experience with a wide variety of different pets; anything from rodents and lagamorphs to felines and reptiles has resided in my household at one point in time. My job experience has required me to recognize and understand common illnesses and treatments, and to have extensive knowledge of individual breeds. You can expect a clean, safe, home-based environment for your pet while you are away, without worrying about whether or not they've run out of food (or patience!) before you get back. I am also trained in Pet First Aid, just in case of an emergency situation.
