On June 7, 1993, at appoximately 2 a.m., the "Golden Venture", a ship loaded with 296 Chinese illegal aliens and 13 crew members, beached on the shore of Fort Tilden. 10 persons drowned in their attempts to flee the stranded ship and get to shore in the United States.
