The Four Winds chapter of CUUPS began in 1994. We are affiliated with the Unitarian Universalist Community Church (UUCC) in Park Forest, Illinois. Our first ritual was the Summer Solstice of 1994.
As an active chapter, we belong to the national organization of Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans. The 10-12 core Four Winds members hold rituals at least four times a year - at the Summer and Winter Solstice, and the Spring and Fall Equinox.
The members of CUUPS follow many different spiritual paths, and the rituals reflect their variety of views, some of which include Native American and Wiccan, but generally earth based. The group practices shared leadership roles at each ritual. Rituals are open to the public, and have been publicized in the local papers and on the Internet. There are usually 20-30 people of all ages in attendance. Some of the past rituals include Dancing the May Pole, the Giving Blanket, a Death Meditation and creating Yule Log "bundles".
The Full Moon Drumming Circle is the newest activity, begun in 1997 and growing fast - some have come from as far away as Palatine. This monthly meditative drumming circle is held the Friday night closest to the Full Moon. New drummers are welcome to this calming and centering ritual (no experience necessary).
There are also occasional "field trips" to spirituality stores and other Pagan or Spiritual events.
