His father is shown as Hugh Cattnach, age 40 and born in February 1860 in Canada, and whose citizenship is shown as NA; and his mother is listed as Hattie Cattnach, born in Wisconsin in December 1856 and age 43. The children are shown as their son Albert Cattnach, age 17 and born in Iowa in February 1883; their son Leslie Cattnach, age 15 and born in North Dakota in February 1885; their son Lynn Cattnach, age 13 and born in August 1886 in Iowa; their son Floyd Cattnach, age 12 and born in Iowa in October 1887; their daughter Minnie M. Cattnach, age 8 and born in Iowa in October 1891; their daughter Amy B. Cattnach, age 5 and born in Iowa in January 1895; and their son Ora Cattnach, age 2 and born in Iowa in June 1897.

The "Autobiography of Amy Belle (Cattnach) Witwer" completed in 1982 shows Ora Fay Cattnach was born June 22, 1897, in Fairmont, Minnesota. She described him as "a likable, easy-going boy, much like our older brother Lynn." Their family had moved from Minnesota to Alberta, Canada, in March 1907, except for her brother, Lynn Cattnach, who had stayed in Minnesota. In 1915 Ora had moved to Blue Earth, Minnesota, where Lynn worked. He joined the Brotherhood of American Yeomen and had taken out an insurance policy for $1000 through this organization on June 21, 1915. He had planned to work until retirement as a locomotive engineer. His plans changed; and he had returned to Canada and enlisted in the Canadian Army in Edmonton and was then SPR. O. F. Cattnach #279863 B. Co. 3rd CRT. He was killed in action in France in August 1918. Amy Witwer apparently still had several letters from her brother in her possession at the time she wrote the autobiography.
