Hex Tiles
The hex tiles in the battle pictures are made from foamboard. It has the advantages of being light and easy to cut. It is available from art supplies shops.

Draw a hex template on paper and glue it on card to make it more durable. You will always need the same template to ensure the hex tiles are identical so it makes sense to take care of the original.

Mark around the template on the foam board. Push a ball point pen through the corners of all the hexes of the grid to make holes in the foamboard.
The pattern of holes produces the hexagonal grid on the tile in a subtle way and avoids having grid lines actually drawn all over the terrain.
Cut out the tile and it is ready for painting.
Paint the tile with yellow-orche acrylic paint and then use a green spray paint to add patches of green grass.

Cutting the tiles along the hex grid lines and stacking them together can produce hill tiles which are then laid on top of the normal tiles.
