"Chemo Angels" | |||||||||||
I just joined a beautiful group of people who chose to make someone who has cancer smile. I joined a group called "Chemo Angels". My job is to get an assigned patient (which as of today I have) and send this patient cards, letters and small gifts once or twice a week. This just makes their treatments a little easier. I know I love to get stuff in the mail. I wait for the mailman!!(Funny since Jimmy was a mailman for so many years!!). Anyway I earned my Angel Wings and I hope to do a GREAT job!! It won't interfere with my website of course. I have enough smiles for everyone!! This is gonna make me very happy I could feel it already. Ever since Frank died I feel this terrible void. I am sure alot of you understand and feel that void also but I needed to do something for someone. I wish I knew about this when Frank became sick because I could have gotten him his very own Angel. Well, anyway at first I was worried about doing this and so was Jimmy. Jimmy worried that it would bring up so many memories and upset me but now that I actually have a patient and learned all about her--I know I am doing the right thing. I know I will make her smile and hopefully she will finish her treatment and get better then I will have gained a friend. If any of you who read this are interested in being a Chemo Angel, just let me know and I will help you get started. You can email me from the main page of this website. Thank you again for all your support. ~Eileen~ |

Updated July 25th 2003 I would like to update everyone about my Chemo Angel assignment. Unfortunately, no one has heard from my "chemo angel buddy" in over 2 months so we really don't know what has happened to her. She was suppose to finish her chemotherapy on June 30, 2003. I hope all is well with her. I will let you know if I hear from her and about her progress. Well now I have a new assignment. I will be angeling a little girl who is 7 years old and has a brain tumor. She began her chemotherapy on July 17, 2003. I was disturbed by her age being Amanda is also 7 years old it is scary. I often wonder why these things have to happen to children especially?? Anyway Amanda is going to get involved in this angeling too. She has already made pictures and wrote letters to this little girl. She has the same interests as Amanda. They both like the same colors and Barbie dolls. Well, I will keep you all informed of new things. I need to stress that being a part of this program has made such a difference to me. I feel that if I could make one person smile during the most difficult time of their life, then I have made a difference in this difficult world we live in. Take care to all of you. Think about becoming a Chemo Angel. I would be glad to help you if you are interested. ~Eileen~ |

My Chemo Angel Patient July 28, 2003 I thought I would start to keep a journal about the progress of my little friend. Her Dad just emailed me today because she received her package that I sent to her. He said that she was so happy and she started to use the stuff we sent her immediately. Oh I had tears in my eyes. How could this happen to someone who is only 7 years old. Amanda asked me the other day "how does someone 7 get cancer" My response was " I just don't know". And I truly don't know. To me no one deserves this disease or any other one but especially not an innocent little child. Well my heart will ache again for my new little friend. I would appreciate any little prayers you may lend out to her. I am sure she will do just fine with her treatments and get back to her life--that's what I pray for her and her family. This Chemoangel program is very rewarding to me. Especially that I know that today if no other day, she SMILED!! ~Eileen~ |

Chemo Angel Update:11/01/03 Well it's been awhile since I have updated all my friends on my special little friend in Kansas...Elizabeth.. Elizabeth if you all remember is only 7 1/2 years old and has a brain tumor which they only removed part of it. Well recently her MRI showed some growth of the tumor and she has been experiencing some added weakness and slurring of her speech..her parents of course are besides themselves as I am too. She is going to go to Chicago in November to a big hospital there for children where she had her first surgery and see if another surgery is an option for her...please keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers..she could use all the help she could get at this point... Recently Elizabeth was visited by the Make a Wish foundation and asked what she wishes for...well her first wish was to go to Disney and be a princess for a day and her other wish was to meet ME!! Well Elizabeth will be going to Disney in January or February and she will be meeting me too...we are all flying to Chicago to meet her in November...I need to do this for her and for me... I want to make all of her wishes come true...Amanda is equally as excited to do this because she has become Elizabeth's friend and pen pal.... i will let you all know how it turns out and I will put pictures up on the site too so you could see my friend....Keep us all in your thoughts and prayers as we fly to Chicago...something I am not so excited about!!! ~Eileen~ |
