- The oldest family ancestor nee Gilles
Trotier was born in 1590 in France and sailed with
- his wife and their 4 children from
the port of Larochelle in July 1646 aboard the Cardinal (
a 300 tonner vessel) along with two other boats of
similar tonnage, the flotilla arrived at Portneuf (a port
on the St-Lawrence river near Québec City located in the
Province of Québec). The landing took place in the month
of September 1646, a fifth child was born a few days
before berthing alongside. Gilles died at the age of 65
near (three Rivers) Trois-Rivières which is located
approximately halfway between Montreal and Quebec cities.
Gilles also called Jules was a proud father, he left a
legacy that as carried for some years to come. My father nee
Elie-Pierre (also surnamed Eddy) 1888-1971 was part
of the 10th generation after our ancester Gilles, my son
and his cousins are of the 12th generation, it is hoped
that his son Michel ( being the 13th generation )and now
at the age of 10 will eventually carry on the Trottier
family legacy.

details are taken from a publication entitled " Les
Editions de l'aurore au crépuscule" authored by
reverend J.G. Sauvageau (priest) whose mother happened to
be a descendant of the Trottier family.
