Directions:

Fr Skamania (~30 mi E of Portland, OR), just E of town on Hwy 14 to Beacon Rock Park. Follow signs. Register at bulletin board at E end of rest area. Hike climber's trail to S side of formation. The 400' vertical face on the south side is only side climbing is allowed. East side is illegal. A separate hiker's trail leads to summit. Please do not park at boat ramp or camping area.

Notes:

Long called the best rockclimbing "in Oregon." Some of the finest, technical rock in the Columbia River Gorge. First ascent 1901. Sixty routes on S face. At 848', second largest monolith in world surpassed only by the Rock of Gibraltar. Beware of poison oak / falling rock or is it falling oak / poison rock?! Helmet? Mandatory sign-in at east end of parking lot. Named by the Lewis and Clark expedition of 1805.
