24. Washington Pass (Liberty Bell & Early Winter Spires)
Go 15 mi W of Mazama on Hwy 20 to Washington Pass. Hike S 1 hr from pass to these prominent formations: Early Winter Spires, Concord Tower, Lexington Tower, and Liberty Bell. (3 access trails). Another major area, Silver Star Mountain / Wine Spires, are 10 min E down Hwy 2 at signed pullout.
Notes: A North American classic. "Roadside" alpine rock climbing on several towers, including the 1,200' E Face of Liberty Bell. Relatively instant access on the best rock in the North Cascades makes this a choice area amongst climbers. Good views of climbs from Washington Pass Overlook Trail. Weather warning: four day pisses to total deluges.
