Welcome to the Filipino Tennis Club in the Central Valley of California! We are a group of young and energetic players who want to stay fit and healthy. But more than that, we simply want to share with each other our blessings of good laughter, delicious food, and that indomitable Filipino spirit of camaraderie. You're welcome to play with us anytime . . . just drop an email. We also would like to invite clubs in other cities to visit us, and show you Filipino hospitality, Fresno-style! NEWS SUMMARY January 6, 2003 A boon for the Central California Filipino Tennis Club, as Chilbert passes the California State Board Exam for Nurses. Yes, no more worries that an incompetent and non-certified nurse would be assisting the heat-struck or worse, the food-stuffed (na-impatso) players during tournaments. Congratulations, Chilbert. We're proud of you. Blow-out naman dyan! December 9, 2002 Fresno, CA. Another fait accompli for the Central Valley Filipino Tennis Club - an exciting conclusion of a double the fun, double the food and double everything DOUBLES tournament on December 8 at Roeding Park. Again, food was the main event. Opening with a warm hearty breakfast of barbecued tender beef tri-tips marinated in lemony kikkoman soy sauce, 2-egg sunny-side ups and Vietnamese pho-la soup with silky white rice noodles, players got pumped up on their first set. I forgot to mention the red sweet and spicy longanisa. And for lunch - large heapings of rice, and would you believe - kalderetang kambing just like in the islands, steaming sinigang, pansit, macaroni, and more barbecue. Oh wow. Palitaw, leche-flan, and bilao-size sapin-sapin completed the menu. Who coordinated all of these? Mar - our beloved Kuya. Big cheers to Kuya Mar for feeding and taking care of us. He forewent competing in any events just to make sure that our hungry stomachs would be filled with savory, warm food when we went on a food break, which turned out to be every hour! Toto, for the second time dominated the event by earning 23 points. However, this was not possible without him partnering with Ted (he, he, he). They, again bageled their 4th opponent in a convincing 9-0 set, a repeat of the Nov 3 game. Eric came next, with 22 points, followed by Ted, with 21. |
November 4, 2002 Fresno, CA. Last Sunday, November 3, 2002, the first CCV Filipino tournament was held in Roeding Park. It's an understatement to call it simply a success. It was a feat to put together, all those sumptuous food -the adobo, sinigang na hipon, barbekyung manok, palitaw at marami pang iba, and still continue to play competitively with a full stomach. Toto, as he is fondly called by his friends won the tournament in three sets and three different doubles partner. He and Ted, teaming up in the first set handily bageled their opponent. He cruised to the 2nd and 3rd sets with ease and pomp, with partner Vic. |
