1965 Nova Installed is a 1966 396 Big Block: Stock forged crank, stock pistons and 10.75:1 compression, a double roller chain turns a Competition Cam that lifts crane roller rockers to stock valves. Exhaust gas exits thru stock oval port heads that have been gasket matched honed out, by way of a pair of Hooker super comp 1 7/8" headers that have been ceramic coated. Cooling the beast is a 2 row 1/2 inch tubed Aluminum radiator with 2 electric fans attached. On top is a Edelbrock 454 O aluminum intake and a Holley 750 double squirting gas. Behind the motor you'll find a CSI sfi approved flexplate that turns a JW super comp 8 inch race converter connected to a 2 speed power glide with a super set installed, this is tweaked by a TCI transbrake. Turning over the motor is a gear reduction mini starter. Underneath you"ll find ladder bars holding the narrowed 9" ford rear end. Connecting this to the tranny is a pair of spicer yokes between a 3/16 " driveshaft tube that spin the aluminum "big bearing" spooled 5:14 gears. Forged axles turn 15" x15" Rims that are wrapped with 29x18.50-15LT Mickey Thompson 16" wide sneakers. I removed the entire stock front end steering assy and swapping the piece that holds the tie rod end to end made the steering in front of the wheels. Then I stole the whole steering assy from a 1984 Toyota Tercel with rack and pinion. I even used components all the way up to and including the steering wheel. I also stole the front disk spindles and brakes from a 74 Nova and made them fit. Inside is a full 10 point roll cage and a Hurst Prostick shifter. Under the dash is a MSD 6AL ignition that connects to a 2 step module. In the trunk is a 16 gal Summit fuel cell feeding a Holley blue electric pump. From the headers is 3" cross over and dual flowmaster Delta 80's exiting in front of the rear wheels. In the trunk is a windshield washer squirter from a Buick. Modified e-brakes are installed. best run 11:80, with no chassis tuning Update: Passed Inspection, was on the road for a WEEK when the motor blew, see "See what happened to the Nova" on the main page for details The motor was removed and brought to the machine shop, resleeved #7 Cylinder and had the heads rebuilt with valve job and a new Comp cam, springs, retainers and keepers. The cam is 244 duration and 550 lift, slightly smaller than the cam I had before but now I have a matching valve train! New rocker 7/16 rocker studs and 7/16 guide plates and new Crane 7/16 pushrods. New rings and 1 new piston and 2 new valves (kinda hurt the other ones) More to come after it's assembled and broken in. |
