Now her hair is all long and sleek and she's advertising L'Oréal, but when Jennifer Aniston first grew out her short fringe she managed to turn that annoying in-between stage into the hairdo of the moment. the 'Rachel', named after her character in Friends, made her a star.
'I never expected that kind of response,' she says. 'The whole thing was just weird. The paparazzi even had pictures of me taking out my rubbish.'
Now as well as telling us to wash the strength back into our hair, Aniston, 28, does a whole load of other ads, earning her about £2 million a year. 'I know people think I planned the hair thing, but I'm not that smart. It was an accident. I just went for a change. Sometimes I feel it overshadows everything else'.

Based on the 1960s hit TV series about a family stranded in space, it also stars Gary Oldman, Mimi Rogers and william Hurt.
